Abstract in English
This research sought to understand the impact of daughters and sons on the careers of women and men, looking for the contrasts between mothers and fathers. The Brazilian context continues to be marked by an expectation in relation to the roles played by gender and the result of this is the maintenance of domestic care and children under the primary responsibility of women. Considering this scenario, a qualitative research was carried out, under the theoretical framework of social constructionism, in which the semi-structured interview was used as an instrument. The participants were women mothers and men fathers, with children from 8 months of gestation to 16 years of age and who worked in organizations. For data analysis, the content analysis described by Bardin was used, in which categories of analysis were constructed according to what was reported by the participants. The results found indicate that the support of the work environment, as well as the support network, is fundamental in enabling and delivering mothers in their jobs, enabling them to reach new professional opportunities. Fathers, in turn, tend to take more conflicts from work to home, which is a point of attention for them. It was concluded that there are impacts on both women's and men's careers with the arrival of children, however there are differences, which are supported by gender relations.
