Nowadays human migration has been demanding a lot of attention from various professionals and the public in general. Within clinical psychology there are different challenges in the accompaniment and treatment of modern time migrants. It is in this context that this thesis has the general objective of analyzing, in metapsychological terms, the psychoanalytic clinic with free migrants, neurotic and already established in Brazil, whose main complaint refers to a strangeness linked to a divided image of oneself. We propose the hypothesis of this migrant as a broken subject, whose broken self-image is correlative to a subject in conflict and divided between internal groups of origin and destination. It is a theoretical-clinical qualitative research which begins with the clinical contents of suffering reported by some migrants, in relation to the tension between the internal groups (René Kaës) in the process of elaborating the implications associated to the changes of country, culture, language, family and relationship groups. This thesis begins with a historical overview of displacement movements as an inherent part of the of civilization process and its specificities and effects in the age of globalization. In order to support the broken subject hypothesis, texts from Freuds metapsychology were analyzed in relation to the theme of migration/displacement and the interrelation between the primordial exile referred to in Totem and taboo and modern time migrations was thus established. Then, the concepts of Freuds broken subject (Spaltung), the double strangerforeigner (Unheimlich) and Kaës intermediary concept were analyzed. Some sociocultural constructs were proposed in relation to belonging and identification, such as the myths of the successful migrant and the return to the Promised Land. The concepts of language and culture stood out as crucial vicissitudes in the clinic with migrants, viewing culture as the third difference (Kaës). The material of four clinical cases of free migrants was analyzed along five categories: (1) complaints of a broken subject: strangeness, anguish, division and tension; (2) clinical management of the transfer and free association of a broken subject in transit between languages and cultures; (3) different subjective positions and their relationship with belonging and identification as intermediate formations; (4) clinical trajectories comprising idealization, elaborations and reconfiguration; (5) metapsychological aspects related to internal groups (origin and destination) and the reissuing of the constitutive exile. It is concluded that working with migrants as a broken subject has contributed to the analysis and management of clinical processes in the transference effects and to the free association between languages and cultures, as well as the repositioning related to intermediate belongings as reducing opposition (Kaës), promoting psychic dislocations such as the becoming of a non-fixed subject. It is hoped that the research findings may contribute to studies on the interface between migration and psychoanalysis and, therefore, to the clinic with migrants in their specificities
