Abstract in English
Teaching actions towards psychotherapists aim the development of important skills for their performance in clinical care. However, there are few studies that establish the relationship between a given teaching action and the effects observed with clients. Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP) points to therapist-client relationship as a context for analysis and action based on the principles of Radical Behaviorism of B. F. Skinner, with its main interventions being those of evoking and consequences responses. FAP is idiographic and also considers the therapist's interpersonal repertoire for case conceptualization, since their behavioral difficulties also influence the course of the therapeutic process. In this psychotherapy, the clients' clinically relevant behaviors are defined as CCR1 (problem), CCR2 (improvement), and CCR3 (descriptions about their own behavior) and therapist's behaviors are T1 (problems that interfere with progresses with the client) and T2 (improvements). The latter, part of a functional class, also occur in the context of teaching this psychotherapy, being widely used in supervision, experiential workshops and therapeutic skills training. In the present study, the development of this repertoire of FAP therapists was considered in the set of teaching actions encompassing 1) FAP supervision and 2) theoretical-experiential training, both for T1/T2 shaping and based on the FIAT evaluation model. The objective was to investigate the effectiveness of this multi-component FAP teaching package on the therapists' evoking and consequence responses and the CRB of their respective clients in session. The design was a non-concurrent multiple baseline, in which phase A consisted of FAP supervisions without the use of FIAT and phase A+B in the insertion of the teaching package (components 1 and 2). There were three therapist-client dyads and, as a result, an increase in CRB2 was observed from the insertion of IV with all participating dyads. Furthermore, improvements were recorded in the quality of the CRB2 issued in this phase, in addition to, as demonstrated by the sequential analysis, evoking and consequence responses of the therapists who were more effective in bringing the clients' CRB2 to session. Clients' responses to the FIAT-Q instrument also indicated improvements in interpersonal repertoires and discussions about the role of evoking responses on some registered changes were also addressed
