Esta pesquisa busca compreender o lugar do cão frente ao ser humano no mundo contemporâneo. Observa-se que o cão assumiu figura de destaque, ao inserir-se significativamente na vida de muitas pessoas, além de compor parte integrante do horizonte sociocultural atual, haja vista a pluralidade de serviços e produtos atualmente disponíveis voltados ao mundo canino. Soma-se a isso o crescente interesse científico pela temática, atestado pelos estudos que apresentam os benefícios físicos e emocionais advindos da interação com o cão, fato que tem possibilitado e fundamentado a inserção destes animais em diversos contextos clínicos e institucionais, tendo em vista intervenções de caráter terapêutico. Ainda que se possa estender o que foi observado a outros animais, a escolha específica pelo cão está pautada em três fatores principais: a experiência pessoal deste pesquisador; a história longeva e complexa do vínculo humano-cão, marcada pela plasticidade e adaptação do cão aos diversos contextos históricos criados pelo ser humano; e a convenção, já que o cão, dentre as pesquisas e intervenções de caráter clínico ou terapêutico, é o animal mais utilizado, havendo, portanto, maiores dados de pesquisa. A partir de um referencial fenomenológico-hermenêutico, busca-se investigar os sentidos desse fenômeno contemporâneo a partir de uma abordagem híbrida: por um lado, em uma perspectiva psicológica, serão realizadas entrevistas, as quais permitirão compreender que fatores ou situações na história de vida dos entrevistados favoreceram a entrada significativa de um cão; por outro lado, em uma perspectiva antropológica será possível, por meio da observação participante, adentrar os diversos lugares em que a relação entre seres humanos e cães acontece, e a partir disto obter depoimentos, reflexões, assim como relatos de pessoas envolvidas nos diversos espaços onde este fenômeno se revela. Finalmente, o projeto busca inserir-se em uma discussão mais ampla: partindo-se da discussão de Gilberto Safra sobre a fragmentação do ethos humano no mundo contemporâneo, aventa-se a hipótese de o cão ocupar, junto ao ser humano, um lugar fundamentalmente ético, auxiliando no resgate de dimensões da condição humana que se encontram empobrecidas na atualidade

This research aims to understand the dog's place in his relationship with the human being in the contemporary world. It is observed that the dog has assumed a prominent figure, when inserting itself significantly in the lives of many people, in addition to being part of the current sociocultural horizon, given the plurality of services and products currently available aimed at the canine world. Added to this is the growing scientific interest in the subject, attested by the studies that present the physical and emotional benefits arising from the interaction with the dog, a fact that has enabled and justified the insertion of these animals in different clinical and institutional contexts, in view of interventions of a therapeutic nature. The specific choice for the dog is based on three main factors: the personal experience of this researcher, the long and complex history of the human-dog bond, marked by the plasticity and adaptation of the dog to the different historical contexts created by the human being, and the convention, since the dog, among the clinical and therapeutic research and interventions, is the most used animal, what enables access to more research data. Based on a phenomenological-hermeneutic framework, we seek to investigate the meanings of this contemporary phenomenon from a hybrid approach: on the one hand, from a psychological perspective, interviews will be conducted, which will allow us to understand which factors or situations in life history of the interviewees favored the significant entry of a dog; on the other hand, in an anthropological perspective it will be possible, through participant observation, to enter the various places where the relationship between humans and dogs takes place. With this, it will be possible to obtain testimonials, reflections, as well as reports from people involved in the different places where this phenomenon is revealed. Finally, the project seeks to insert itself in a broader discussion: starting from Gilberto Safra's discussion on the fragmentation of the human ethos in the contemporary world, the hypothesis is raised that the dog occupies, with the human being, a fundamentally ethical place, helping to rescue dimensions of the human condition that are currently impoverished
