Abstract in English
This research aimed to problematize the concept of majority, in addition to its paradigmatic counterexample: the minor offender. Understanding legal majority as what marks the passage from which a person can fully respond for themselves and their actions in the public arena, it was considered important to analyze in depth what is socially understood by it, in order to qualify and expand the debate. In the Brazilian scenario, the discussion on minors/major is reduced to the age of criminal liability and limited to the debate on the reduction of the criminal majority of those considered minors, that is, poor children and adolescents. On the other hand, for upper-middle class adolescents, a postponed coming of age is allowed, always to come, often receiving the leniency of the judicial system. Taking majority as an issue made it possible to examine how this concept has been used in social conflicts to justify political choices and naturalize a selective application of laws. This analysis also allowed us to collect the subjective effects in the production of suffering resulting from the marks that these reductions imprint on those subjects who are under the shadow of the minor, present in the singular way in which they can narrate and identify with and among others and in others. It was investigated, from the concept of development, which crosses border areas of different fields of knowledge (Law, Psychiatry, Pedagogy, Psychology) which norms and criteria have been listed as a condition for the transition to adulthood, as well as which constructions and power relations that substantiate discretionary powers and perpetuate minors as a condition of inequality, in terms of social participation and recognition in the public. The contribution of psychoanalysis made it possible to advance in relation to these issues, pointing out the effects engendered by these discourses on social ties, including the subject of the unconscious in this debate. Considering that adulthood implies a recognition of and in the public, it is understood as an effect of the subject's positioning in face of the subject's injunctions with the Other, a movement in which it puts into effect the interdependence between autonomy and heteronomy, instead of its opposition, and includes the singular, as a radical difference. It was concluded that coming of age can be revisited as an answer that calls into question a common determination, in the name of the common that is made for the difference
