Abstract in English
The present study had the objective to describe and analyze the narrative of elderly with chronic kidney disease regarding their experience on aging and illness, correlating with Analytical Psychology. A qualitative method has been chosen, using a semi structured interview that approached the story of life, experience with illness, hemodialytic treatment and the perception of aging. The analysis was referenced by the archetypal symbolic processing method from Eloisa Penna. The research was approved by the Ethical Committee of Psychology InstituteUSP, and the interviews were conducted with 7 elderly, 4 men and 3 women, with ages between 75 and 80. Units of significance found were: meaning of aging, experience of hemodialysis as a place of care and meetings, symbolic aspects of illness, archetypal experience with maternal and dreams and the journey of the soul. From those themes it was possible to notice that the experience of the disease has provoked psychological movements of ruptures, care and amplification of persona focused on work. Thus, the symbolic amplification has approached the myths of the Wounded Healer, Sisyphus and Ulysses Odyssey, which pictures a journey back to his own life and resignifications. It is concluded that kidney disease is a mark in the trajectory of those elderly. The changes in lifes routine propelled a connection and consciousness of the bond between mind and body. The participants had to look at the aging and illness process and, therefore, each one had resignified that unique stage in their lives
