Esta tese dedicou-se a investigar a temática da permanência estudantil. Para tal, partindo da pergunta-bússola Como compreender permanência estudantil?, debruçou-se sobre a experiência dos alunos e das alunas da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) em relação a permanecerem nesta instituição enquanto estudantes. Faz-se pertinente ter como alvo de pesquisa esta universidade pela importância que ela exerce na América Latina e no mundo, figurando sempre entre as melhores instituições de ensino superior. Enquadrando-se numa perspectiva da psicologia à luz fenomenologia hermenêutica, a metodologia desta investigação se constrói a partir da leitura dos escritos de Martin Heidegger, especialmente aqueles que dizem respeito à situação hermenêutica e suas coordenadas a saber: ponto de vista, perspectiva e horizonte. Essa noção foi fundamental, inclusive, para a estruturação do corpo da tese em articulação com os escritos de Hans-Georg Gadamer acerca da conversa, do conceito de tradição e da reabilitação do conceito de preconceito. A partir de levantamento bibliográfico específico a respeito da permanência e assistência estudantil, delineia-se a pertinência de ainda pesquisar essa temática, que deriva do fato de ser recente a existência de políticas estruturadas com vistas a oferecer condições de permanência aos alunos mais pobres nas universidades públicas. A investigação, que teve, de início, como principais interlocutores, os alunos e alunas que recebem o auxílio de permanência da USP, abriu-se de maneira distinta conforme o caminhar pelo campo. Conversou-se com um aluno e duas alunas que recebem auxílio e uma assistente social da Capital; fez-se um ciclo de conversas com alunos de pós-graduação a partir do episódio do suicídio de um colega e se visitou um campus no interior de São Paulo, conversando com dois docentes, uma assistente social e um grupo de alunas, por ocasião da tentativa de suicídio de outra colega. Buscou-se, a partir da metodologia construída, evidenciar e compreender o que tradicionalmente contempla a experiência de permanecer na USP por meio de conversas em campo. Mediante a conversa com as conversas, compreendeu-se que permanência é travessia: não se permanece da mesma maneira ao longo de todo o tempo de graduação ou pós. Também se compreendeu que há violência na permanência estudantil e que ela se apresenta de duas formas distintas, aqui nomeadas de violentia, do latim; ßía, do grego. Diante de tudo o que foi apresentado, conclui-se que compreender permanência estudantil somente enquanto programa ou política de assistência é raso e incompleto. Há que se considerar que somente auxílio financeiro não contempla as necessidades de permanência dos alunos e alunas de baixa renda. Deve-se também ter em mente, para a construção de um programa de permanência estudantil, que a parte do corpo discente que não é de baixa renda também pode ter dificuldades para permanecer e, nesse sentido, também necessita de olhar atento e cuidadoso. Por fim, entende-se que o cuidado atual com a permanência estudantil na USP é falho e tem levado seus estudantes a adoecer. Providências devem ser tomadas para que tal situação possa ser modificada

This thesis was dedicated to investigating the theme of student permanence. To do so, starting from the compass-question How to understand student permanence?, we looked at the experience of students at the University of São Paulo (USP) in remaining in this as students. It is pertinent to have this university as a research target due to its importance in Latin America and in the world, always being among the best institutions of higher education. Framing a psychology perspective in the light of hermeneutic phenomenology, the methodology of this investigation is built from the reading of Martin Heidegger's writings, especially with regard to the hermeneutic situation and its coordinates namely: point of view, perspective and horizon , fundamental even for the structuring of the body of the thesis, in articulation with the writings of Hans-Georg Gadamer about conversation, the concept of tradition and the rehabilitation of the concept of prejudice. Based on a specific bibliographic survey regarding student permanence and assistance, the relevance of further researching this theme is outlined, which stems from the fact that structured policies are recent in order to offer conditions of permanence to the poorest students at universities public. The investigation, which began with the main interlocutors of students who receive assistance from USP, remained in a different way according to the walk in the countryside. We talked to a male student and two female students who receive aid from the university in order to remain in it, a social worker from the capital, a cycle of conversations was made with post-graduate students, which had its origin in the episode of the suicide of a colleague, and a campus was visited in the countryside from São Paulo, talking to two teachers, a social worker and a group of students, on the occasion of another colleague's suicide attempt. From the constructed methodology, we sought to highlight and understand what traditionally contemplates the experience of staying at USP, based on conversations in the field. From the conversation with the conversations, it was understood that permanence is crossing: one does not remain the same throughout the time of graduation or post-graduation. It was also understood that there is violence during the student stay and that it presents itself in two different forms, here named violentia, from Latin, ßía, from Greek. From all that has been presented, it is concluded that understanding student permanence only as a program or assistance policy is shallow and incomplete. It must be considered that only financial assistance does not address the needs of permanence of low-income students. One must also consider, for the construction of a student permanence program, that the part of the student body that is not of low income may also have difficulties to stay and, in this sense, also needs to look attentive and careful. Finally, it is understood that the current care with student stay at USP is flawed and has led its students to become ill. Provisions must be made so that this situation can be changed
