O presente trabalho retoma o papel e a natureza do brincar na história da psicanálise buscando identificar as transformações que o constituíram como uma referência para a compreensão da experiência psíquica e suas implicações para a prática clínica. Demonstramos como a teoria do brincar assume um lugar análogo, no seu sentido e na sua relevância epistemológica, que o sonho foi para Freud. Entendemos que a passagem desta racionalidade onírica para uma racionalidade lúdica foi marcada por pontos de continuidade e inflexão em relação à teoria freudiana dos sonhos que ficou ao encargo, sobretudo, de Melanie Klein e Donald Winnicott. Estas transformações deslocaram, em um sentido amplo, as coordenadas da investigação clínica e teórica de uma perspectiva onírica, em que o tempo e a representatividade são predominantes; para uma perspectiva lúdica, em que o espaço e a materialidade ganham relevo. Em um sentido restrito, estas transformações incidem também sobre os processos de simbolização, de criatividade e de novas modalidades de compreensão da intervenção clínica

The present work resumes the role and nature of play in the history of psychoanalysis, seeking to identify the transformations that constituted it as a reference for the understanding of psychic experience and its implications for clinical practice. We demonstrate how the theory of play assumes an analogous place, in its sense and in its epistemological relevance, that the dream was for Freud. We understand that the transition from this dreamlike rationality to a playful rationality was marked by points of continuity and inflection in relation to the Freudian theory of dreams, which was mainly the responsibility of Melanie Klein and Donald Winnicott. These changes have displaced, in a broad sense, the coordinates of clinical and theoretical research from a dreamlike perspective, in which time and representativeness are predominant; for a playful perspective, in which space and materiality gain prominence. In a restricted sense, these transformations also affect the processes of symbolization, creativity and new ways of understanding clinical intervention
