Abstract in English
The electrochemical oxidation of diphenylamine (DPA) has been monitored by cyclic voltametry coupled with spectroscopic methods resonance Raman (RR), surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), reflectance and eletronic spin resonance (ESR). The polymers, synthesized at different electrochemical conditions, were characterized by means of in situ RR, ex situ Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and reflectance measurements. In order to support the spectroscopic results, complementary techniques were also employed (gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and thermogravimetry (TG). In final studies, the changes in the electrical properties of the polydiphenylamines were measured with a homemade conductivimeter. After the electrochemical oxidation, the formed species were identified and the main reaction at the electrode/solution interface was determined by in situ RR and reflectance spectroscopy. Two different forms of the polydiphenylamine (PDPA) films were prepared with high molecular weight and one sample of PDPA of low molecular weight. It was concluded from the conductivity measurements and absorption eletronic spectra that the presence of some energy levels in the gap is not a necessary condition for conduction. It was noticed that the laser power and pH of the medium induced the disproportionation reaction of fragments of DFB+ in the polymeric matrix. The intensity changes in the FTIR spectrum of PDPA caused by an increase of temperature, showed the thermal instability of DPB+ fragments and the rupture of the interchain hydrogen bonding.
