Keywords in Portuguese
Geometria da Terra
Geometria esférica
Geometria não-euclidiana

Spherical geometry: a proposal for introduction to high school from geometry in the sphere

Abstract in English
This work aimed to analyze possibilities and challenges of inserting concepts and procedure of geometry in the sphere, so that spherical geometry was introduced for high school students from the speech of a group of teachers. A qualitative action research study was conducted, as the researcher played the role of elaborator of a sequence of activities and developed it with the group of teachers. The study was developed in two different moments, one characterized as a pilot study with six teachers and another with twenty. At the end of the study it is possible to state that the proposed geometry problems in the sphere made it possible to challenge teachers in the search for new knowledge, since some were not familiar with those concepts. Still, after the presentation, several teachers were receptive to bring similar situations into the classroom and showed that there are substantial advantages in introducing this to students. No teacher said there were disadvantages to talking about this in the classroom, although some thought the problems were difficult for students. However, it is noticed that these teachers had more difficulties in solving those questions. With this, I believe I have understood some of the setbacks that make this topic not addressed in the classroom, but I show that it is possible to introduce this subject in the classroom.
