Geodiversidade
Percepção do público

Abstract in English
Environmental and science perceptions are mechanisms by which individuals observe, interpret and value the environment that surrounds them and the science itself. Although the understanding of these mechanisms is fundamental for promoting the conservation of the environment and the development of science, there are few studies focused on geodiversity and geosciences, particularly in the State of São Paulo. In this context, this work aims to broaden and deepen the understanding of the public's perception through a survey carried out with visitors to three geosites of the inventory of the Geological Heritage of the State of São Paulo: the Varvito Geological Park in Itu, the Caverna do Diabo in Eldorado and Pico do Itapeva in Pindamonhangaba. The results obtained indicate that participants have a medium to high interest in science, however, few mention geology as their preferred science. In addition, it was observed that the dissemination of geosciences and geodiversity in these geosites presents gaps and consequently low retention of several pertinent geoscientific subjects. One of these gaps can be exemplified by the low perception of these geosites as a geological heritage by the participants, which is not promoted in the communication used in the studied places. The low retention of information can be illustrated, for example, by the participants' difficulty in mentioning elements of the geodiversity observed in them. Thus, from the understanding of the participants' perception, communication strategies are proposed aiming at their improvement, having the Varvito Geological Park as the object of a case study. The proposed strategies are based on the engagement communication model in which the profile and interests of the target audience are observed, using language and resources suited to it, taking advantage of the Park's own tourist, historical and cultural appeal and its geological history. Thus, it is proposed to link entertainment to the promotion of environmental perception of geodiversity and geosciences. It is expected that the preliminary understanding of public perception and the strategies proposed in this research can help future initiatives serving as a basis for the dissemination of geodiversity and geosciences in other geosites.
