Abstract in English
This work analyses karstification process evolution in the carbonate sequence of the Bambuí Group in Chapada of Irece (BA), with the basic objective of improving knowledge of the hydrogeologic system. In the karstification processes, the parameters water, rock chemical composition and structural elements have been analysed as fundamental agents in the evolutionary process. The integrated analysis of these factors allowed the identification of several stages in the evolution of the karstic system: in the north of the study area it is little developed and develops gradually to the south and to the east, in the contact zone with the Chapada Diamantina Group, where the karst in more developed. The karstification process affects the hydrogeologic behavior of the aquifer system in all of the northern sector as a karstic fissural aquifer. In the south and in the east the contact zone with Chapada Diamantina quartzite becomes entirely karstic. The hydrogeologic evolution has been supported by morfostructural physiognomy of the surface, the specific yield of wells, seasonal variations of hydraulic head and groundwater chemical quality. Through the use of statistical methods of tendency analyses were generated isoline maps and tendency surfaces which allowed the determination of the potentially better areas for groundwater exploration. In the more karstic areas exist the highest groundwater volumes facilitated by better conditions for storing and recharge. The underground drainage is completely subordinated to structural factor such as flaw and large fissures, which play a very important role in the process. The average rate of recharge has been estimated as 3, 9% from precipitation, or 23,4 x 10³ m³/year/km², representing 223 x '10 POT.6' m³/year in an area of 9.510 km² of karstic surface. Additionally, the authors conclude that qualitatively there aren't significant restritions to groundwater use for human supply, cattle or irrigation in the study area.
