Multi-probe analysis on harmonic space: Contributions for the Dark Energy Survey
Keywords in English
Cosmology
Dark Energy Survey
Galaxies
Structure of the Universe
Abstract in English
The combination of multiple cosmological probes is an effective way to identify problems with the theoretical framework of modern physical cosmology and to increase the precision of established results. Challenges arise when this combination requires a joint treatment of systematic effects and correlations between probes. While the Dark Energy Survey (DES) has been developing a robust method for this kind of multi-probe analysis, it has focused on configuration space functions, leaving a gap for harmonic space analysis. In this dissertation, we develop steps toward a multi-probe harmonic space analysis of DES data. In Chapter 1, we show our premises and define the concepts which are at the base of modern cosmological research. In Chapter 2, correlation functions are explored with a focus on harmonic space. We show how to arrive at the theoretical expressions for angular power spectra. In Chapter 3, we review the use of multiple probes in cosmological research, and the pioneering efforts of DES towards the analysis of galaxy clustering, galaxy-galaxy lensing and cosmic shear correlations. In Chapter 4, we describe our contribution to DES multi-probe analysis: A harmonic space galaxy clustering project with the collaboration's Year 1 data.
