Keywords in Portuguese
Armada
Componente cabeça
Equilíbrio
Sistema somatossensorial.

Abstract in English
The present study aimed to investigate the role of head component in the Capoeiras armada. The movement of the head was analyzed in relation to the following aspects: speed of execution of the armada; performers learning stage; lateral dominance of the lower limbs; and the presence of an opponent/target. The participants were 40 adults, both male and female, aged between 18 to 40 years. The dependent variables involved the following times: (a) movement total of armada, (b) total head movement, (c) beginning of head movement, and (d) end of head movement. Results showed that: (1) head movement time was shorter than the total time of armada; (2) head movement occurred after the armada has been initiated and before it has been ended; (3) head movement time did not differ in relation to the armada speed (fast/slow) and performer's learning stage (beginner/advanced); (4) head movement time differed regarding the lateral dominance of the lower limbs and presence of the target/virtual opponent. In this case, it was found that the head movement time in the armada performed with the dominant member was greater than that of the non-dominant member, and that the armada performed on the opponent/target involved the head movement time superior to the armada performed without an opponent/target. It was concluded that the execution of the capoeiras armada involved the marking of the head, whose functions were to promote better balance and visual coupling with opponent.
