Abstract in English
Recent research has sought to identify the post-athletic career transition process in order to reduce the negative effects of this phase of the career through the design, implementation and development of programs that can offer support services to athletes. Given the scarcity of programs for this purpose in Brazil, the present research aimed to raise guiding elements for the development of support programs for the post-athletic career transition. For this, three stages were carried out: Stage 1 survey and analysis of theoretical models, programs developed by different countries, entities and programs reported in the literature in different databases and websites of sport administration entities; in the analysis of the results, the converging elements of the models and programs were identified; Stage 2 field research with former high performance athletes of aquatic marathon, through semi-structured interview; and Stage 3 synthesis of the guiding elements for the elaboration of a post-athletic career transition program. According to the results of Step 1, it was possible to observe that certain critical success factors of the SPLISS model present converging elements between the theoretical models, programs and research analyzed. Thus, the categories for the content analysis of the interviews in Stage 2 were defined a priori and, based on these categories, subcategories were defined. The synthesis developed in Step 3 points out as guiding elements for support services programs during the athletic career, in the transition to the professional and in the transition to the post-athletic career. It was possible to conclude that in Brazil, support program for the post-athletic career transition are scarce, that the initiative for partnerships, internships and jobs is the athlete himself, that social support is offered by family and friends, in addition to the professional follow-up of a psychologist for the adjustments in this process. As suggestions for future studies, it is considered the application in other sports, as well as verifying the understanding of the entities of practice (clubs and entities) and administration, still trying to verify the understanding of the role of each one of them in the process lived by the athlete
