O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar a influencia da idade cronológica, peso, estatura, superfície corporal e pilosidade pubiana na força de preensão manual direita de escolares do sexo masculino. Mais especificamente, o estudo foi dirigido no sentido de identificar a variável responsável pela maior variação da força de preensão manual. Os dados foram coletados em uma escola particular de São Paulo, em 363 escolares de 10 a 17 anos. Foram calculadas correlações simples e parciais entre as variáveis e foi feita análise de regressão múltipla "stepwise" para toda a amostra e para cada grupo de idade. Os resultados mostraram que a força de preensão manual está correlacionada significativamente (p < .01) com as demais variáveis quando cada uma delas foi mantida constante. A análise de regressão múltipla para toda a amostra selecionou, no primeiro passo, o estágio de pilosidade pubiana como variável de maior influência na predição da força de preensão manual, sendo responsável por 76,33% (R X 100) da variação da força. A análise de regressão múltipla para cada grupo de idade mostrou que a estatura tem influência decrescente dos 12 aos 14 anos, e que o estágio de pilosidade pubiana tem influência crescente dos 12 aos 15 anos. Concluiu-se que a maturação sexual foi o fator de maior influência na predição da força de preensão manual de adolescentes do sexo masculino e que a maturação sexual e a estatura foram os fatores de maior influência em diferentes períodos entre 10 e 17 anos

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of chronological age, body weight, standing height, surface area and development of pubic hair on the static strength in school boys. More specific ally, the study was directed toward the Identification of the variable which account for the largest variation in hand-grip strength. The study was conducted at a private high-school in São Paulo, and 363 students, ages 10 to 17 years served as subjects. The data were analyzed through zero and first order correlations and stepwise multiple regression across age group and for each age group. The results showed that hand-grip strength correlated significantly (p < .01) with all other variables held constant. The multiple regression in the first step selected pubic hair as the single most influential 2 in the prediction of the static force and accounted for 76,33% (R X 100) of the variation. The multiple regression analysis for each age group showed that standing height had a decreasing influence from ages 12 to 14 years and pubic hair an increasing from ages 12 to 15 years. It was concluded that sexual maturation emerged as the most influential factors in predicting had-grip strength in adolescent boys. It was further concluded that sexual maturation and standing height were the most influential factors at different points in time within the 10 to 17 range of age
