Este trabalho teve por objetivo verificar e analisar as condições da prática de educação física no pré-escolar, no município de São Paulo, com relação à existência ou inexistência, formação e caracterização do profissional responsável, condições materiais das aulas e planejamento das atividades. Este estudo, por ser descritivo, foi baseado na hipótese de "Testar o pressuposto amplamente aceito de que não existe a prática da educação física na maioria das pré-escolas do município de São Paulo". Foram analisadas 265 escolas das redes estadual, particular e municipal de ensino, através do questionário, que continha questões administrativas gerais, bem como questões específicas de educação física. Foi realizado um estudo paralelo (uma sub amostra) dos respondentes denominados não voluntários, para verificar a existência de vício dos dados obtidos, o qual não foi comprovado, levando a acreditar na qualidade adequada da amostra e elaborar expansões populacionais. Foram utilizados os testes de Quii Quadrado e análise de variância com um fator, para avaliar a qualidade da amostra e efetuar o estudo comparativo entre as três redes de ensino. A hipótese principal do estudo foi negada nas redes estadual e particular e confirmada na rede municipal. São dadas sugestões para futuras pesquisas, ação pedagógica e legislação da área

The purpose of this study was to examine and analyse the preschool physical education classes in the city of São Paulo. A survey was done to test the hypothesis that, There are no Physical Education courses in the majority of preschools in the city of São Paulo. Others aspects analysed were: teachers profissional preparation, the classrooms physical surroundings and planning activities. A questionnaire comprised of administrative questions and specific physical education questions was administered to 263 state, municipal, and private schools. In order to examine bias in the data, a parallel study was performed wich included a sub group called noy-voluntary. The results of this parallel study led to belief that the sample was appropriate and that populational extrapolations could be made. X square and ANOVA were used to verify the validity of the sample and the comparative study among the three educational levels. The main hypothesis was rejected three educational levels. The main hypothesis was rejected at the state and private levels and was accepted at the municipal level. Suggestions were given about pedagogic actions, legislation in the area, and for future research
