Abstract in English
In order to analyze the film Mutum (2007), directed by Sandra Kogut and inspired by Guimarães Rosa short history Campo geral (1956), this work addresses questions about the film adaptation and briefly presents the relations between literature and cinema, considering the motivations that lead filmmakers to adapt books into other artistic expressions according to the perspective of translation theory. A path is proposed in order to highlight how Sandra Kogut has dialogued with the source text and how she has transposed to the film not only the narrative but, especially, the main themes presented in Rosas short history, such as the different perspectives of childhood. It is known that the concept of childhood was historically and socially constructed; therefore, the reading presented in this dissertation is based on the studies of researchers Elisabeth Badinter, Phillipe Ariès and Mary del Priore. It also seeks to clarify the choices made by the director and which procedures were used so that Rosas plot could be transformed into a cinematographic work and the character Miguilim became the boy Thiago. The process of filmic transposition will be analyzed based on the propositions of scholars Ismail Xavier and Flávio Aguiar, in addition to the considerations about the film adaptation process carried out by scholars Linda Hutcheon, Julio Plaza, Robert Stam and Randal Johnson.
