O consumo mundial de agregados para a construção civil foi estimado em torno de 43,3 bilhões de toneladas em 2016, sendo a areia, cerca de 44% desse material. No estudo publicado pela Persistence Market Research no relatório "Global Market Study on Construction Aggregates: Industry Analysis and Forecast 2016-2024", a projeção de crescimento é de 62,9 bilhões de toneladas até 2024. No Brasil, o consumo de agregado para a construção civil foi aproximadamente de 0,74 bilhões de toneladas em 2014. Nas composições de argamassa, o agregado chega a representar 70% do volume total. Seu preço unitário de venda costuma ser baixo, porém a sua forma e o empacotamento das partículas na composição tem impacto no custo final do produto, visto que têm influência no comportamento reológico. No caso da areia de brita, a origem da rocha e o tipo de britador interferem no formato dos grãos o que torna a matéria-prima variada de um fornecedor para outro. Em consequência, alterações reológicas são observadas nos produtos durante as etapas de mistura e aplicação, e influenciam na dosagem de água de amassamento, aditivo e cimento. Este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar o impacto da distribuição morfológica de areias com diferentes procedências nos estados fresco e endurecido de argamassas produzidas em laboratório para simular produtos industrializados. As argamassas dosadas com agregados de maior esfericidade demonstraram os melhores desempenhos conforme esperado. Contudo, o estudo demonstrou a possível viabilidade na utilização das areias com diferentes formas sem a necessidade de tratálas para torná-las mais arredondadas. Palavras-Chave: Areia de brita. The worldwide aggregates consumption by construction was estimate on 43.3 billion meters tons in 2016 and around 44% of the material is natural sand. In the study published by Persistence Market Research in the report "Global Market Study on Construction Aggregates: Industry Analysis and Forecast 2016-2024", growth projection is 62.9 billion tons by 2024. In Brazil, aggregate consumption by the construction industry was approximately 0.74 billion tons in 2014. In mortar compositions, the aggregate represents 80% of the total volume. Its unit price of sale is usually low, however its morphology and composition packing causes impact in the final cost of the product because it has influence in rheological behavior. For manufactured sand, rock origin and type of crusher interferes on the shape of the grains, which makes the raw material vary from one supplier to another. Consequently, changes on rheological behavior are observed in the product during the mixing and application stages, which influences water, additive and cement consumption. This study was accomplished with the main goal to evaluate the impact of sand's morphological distribution originated from different plants, on mortars for fresh and hardened state, produced on laboratory to simulate industrialized products. Mortars dosed with higher sphericity aggregates presented better performance as expected. Nevertheless, the study demonstrated a possibility for using aggregates with different morphology without treatment to round it.
