Abstract in English
This work presents the results of performance simulations of compact cars powered by small engines of 1.OL displacement. Starting with published vehicle specifications of masses, engines and transmissions, Newton's law is applied using tractive and motion resisting forces. This results in calculated accelerations for the range of speeds covered running through gears from stop to maximum speed. Numerical integration of acceleration data produces curves of velocity and distance vs. time which are typical parameters used in performance comparison of vehicles. The matching of obtained figures with published tests results showed acceptable agreement. Additional investigations were made comparing the ability of the fully loaded vehicles to travel at maximum speed limits in high gear on highways with a typical 3% grade inclination. Vehicle driving safety was also investigated by the dynamic simulation of overtaking maneuvers, both of a similar vehicle and of a long articulated truck, producing the 'time exposed to danger' figures. As a final test, the effects of using a larger engine (1.8L) on one of the small vehicles was investigated by determining the same performance indexes.
