Abstract in English
To manage projects with teams whose members are geographically dispersed is a new challenge emerged from the moment that multinational corporations started implementing production strategies for global products or product platforms within different plants around the world. Units located around the world no more operate independently from each other or from their headquarters in what refers to new products development but, on the contrary, they have been integrated to take advantage of the synergy imbedded in joined and parallel work among different units during the product development. Considering that it is a new subject, most of available literature regarding project management does not cover the particularities inherent to this kind of situation. This work, therefore, intends to find out, according to a bibliography research and a case study of a Swedish automotive company operating in Brazil, how, within the project management context, it is possible to coordinate and communicate activities and information throughout cultural and geographically dispersed team members aiming at reaching a common goal. Once defined such particularities, this work explores ways to adapt related processes to suggest possible improvements
