A expansão populacional e territorial das metrópoles, em direção às áreas periféricas, ao longo do século XX e do início do século XXI, contribuiu em diversos locais do mundo para o surgimento de fenômenos que dificultam o planejamento urbano. Entre estes, identifica-se o espraiamento logístico na Região Metropolitana de São Paulo, que é a mudança de localização de galpões logísticos. Esta dinâmica dos novos tempos exige o equacionamento de diversos interesses, como a proximidade dos destinos das mercadorias armazenadas e à infraestrutura de transporte para o escoamento, incluída à racionalização dos custos de transporte e armazenagem. Sendo assim, fica evidente a urgência do planejamento da infraestrutura de transporte, tendo em vista o fluxo de mercadorias na região e a garantia da sustentabilidade ambiental. O principal objetivo deste estudo é verificar a ocorrência do espraiamento logístico na Região Metropolitana de São Paulo, identificando e analisando os fatores que o influenciaram. Foram coletados dados das empresas de armazenagem na Junta Comercial, e realizados os cálculos de espraiamento logístico referentes aos centros geográficos de 1992 a 2017. Os resultados revelam a intensidade do fenômeno e ajudam a compreender quais os fatores de atração mais relevantes para empresas de armazenagem em 2017, incluindo aspectos sociodemográficos, econômicos, logísticos, imobiliários e tributários. Os resultados indicam um sutil espraiamento logístico em um período mais recente, com mudança do baricentro para a direção noroeste da Região Metropolitana de São Paulo e identificou-se que as empresas estão se concentrando ainda em regiões próximas à metrópole, com custos de galpões mais baixos e servidas por rodovias.

The metropolises' population and territorial expansion, towards the peripheral areas, throughout the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first century, contributed in several places of the world to the emergence of phenomena that impact their dynamics. Among these, we identify the logistics sprawl in São Paulo Metropolitan Region, which is the location change of logistics warehouses. This new time dynamic demands the balance of several interests, such as the proximity of the destinations of their stored goods and the transportation infrastructure for the flow, including the optimization of transportation and storage costs. Thus, the urgency of transportation infrastructure planning is evident, given the flow of goods in the region and the guarantee of environmental sustainability. The main objective of this study is to verify the occurrence of logistics sprawl in São Paulo Metropolitan Region, identifying and analyzing the factors that influenced it. Warehousing companies data were collected from São Paulo Commercial Chamber website, and logistics sprawl calculations were performed for the geographic centers from 1992 to 2017. The results reveal the intensity of the phenomenon and help to understand which factors of attraction were more relevant for warehousing companies in 2017, including sociodemographic, economic, logistical, real estate, and tax aspects. The results indicate a subtle logistics sprawl during a recente period, with a shift of the barycenter to the northwest direction of São Paulo Metropolitan Region and companies are still concentrating in regions near the metropolis, with lower warehouse costs and served by highways.
