Reatores a fusão

Abstract in English
This thesis embodies the authors experience with the structural design of controlled thermonuclear fusion research machines. Initially, the discussion focus the potentialities of fusion as a source of clean, intrinsically safe energy, capable of sustaining the global power requirements in the long term. Attention is then concentrated on the structural problem of the tokamaks, which will constitute the core of the future fusion reactors. It is shown how the patterns of electromagnetic and thermal loads acting on the tokamak define the required structural systems and the overall reactor topology. These general concepts are henceforth applied to mechanical and thermal problems faced by the author in several research machines. Initially, the main mechanical characteristics of the TBR-E tokamak (Brazil) are discussed, along with the analyses undertaken to validate its structural design and the technological innovations thus achieved. Afterwards, the thermal analyses of the RFX (Italy) first wall is presented, and the mechanical and chemical safety of the wall is shown. Finally, this thesis presents studies of some components of the tokamaks TST (USA) and TBR-II (Brazil), which are characterized by unfavorable geometry, from the structural viewpoint.
