Abstract in English
In Brazil, there are still energy consumers not connected to the National Interconnected System, called Isolated Systems. These systems are located mainly in the North of the country, where environmental preservation issues and long distances make a possible interconnection with the National Interconnected System impracticable. Therefore, these systems have as their main source of electricity the use of small Diesel generators, which present high logistical costs in the transportation of fuel and cause economic and environmental problems. In this context, the economic feasibility study of investing in renewable sources to supply these micro-networks is opportune, since the increase in renewable sources within the Brazilian energy matrix has provided gains in scale, technological development, nationalization of the production chain and, thus, the significant decrease in the installation costs of several sources that were once incipient. With this, the use of renewable sources such as wind and photovoltaic solar can today, alone or through associations with small hydroelectric plants or bio generators, be considered as economically viable alternatives for serving small loads. Renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydro stand out for being more environmentally friendly and mainly for being able to operate together, obtaining synergistic gains, which could minimize the total supply cost these micro-networks, it could also bring economic benefits to the localities. In the context of improving the remote microgrids supply from the point of view of the planner and decision maker of new investments, the presented methodology aimed: the remote microgridsmathematical modeling in hourly granularity in the planning horizon, with intention to represent hourly synergies; the evaluation of stochastic operating costs with the implementation of risk metrics; and the optimization of investments in new generating sources through the use of evolutionary optimization techniques. The methodology was tested in various applications, showing itself to be flexible and coherent for representing the problems faced by remote micronetworks, such as the definition of new investments with the controlled risk, and the possibility of capturing synergy by improving the share of renewable sources. Finally, in the case study, the methodology was used to reduce the cost of a remote microgrid with typical characteristics, obtaining significant reductions and calculating the necessary investments for the decommissioning of the local thermoelectric generation.
