Abstract in English
Microgrids can operate connected to the utility network or in isolated form, and the transition between these modes of operation must occur automatically. However, several factors can compromise the successful transition to island mode, such as the intermittency and low inertia due to renewable sources, which can influence the stability of the microgrid and therefore the success during the transition to island mode. During the transition, it is necessary to detect the island condition and change the control mode of the microgrid generation units. However, the point of operation can influence both the detection of the islanding condition and the effectiveness of the controls, and therefore, even if the microgrid has the generation capacity to meet the load, the system may lose stability. Different solutions can be used to increase the capacity to perform a successful transition to island mode. However, these solutions depend on the point of operation at the moment of the island, which, due to the high rate of renewable generation in the microgrid, must be treated stochastic. In this context, this PhD work presents an analysis of the transition from microgrids to island mode of operation and proposes a methodology to assess the success rate of this transition. The methodology is based on Monte Carlo Simulations, considering all possible operating conditions, given by the modeling and the probabilistic distribution functions that allow stochastic estimation of the load, generation and state of charge of the battery storage system. The results obtained show the effectiveness and influence of the devices and/or techniques used to identify the operating state of the system considering the uncertainty of each operating point to obtain and improve the microgrid islanding success rate.
