Keywords in Portuguese
Engenharia elétrica
Máquinas agrícolas
Semeadoras

Abstract in English
Sowing is a very important operation in the agricultural process, and among its parameters the uniformity of seed distribution in the soil has a considerable influence on productivity. Nevertheless modern planters, even the precision planters, present failures on metering and distributing which cannot be easily noticed by the operator. The objective of this work was the development of a tool for agricultural production and for research on agricultural machines. The work consisted on studying, conceiving, and implementing a prototype of a planter monitor. The proposed equipment includes a microcontroller-based module and an optical sensor for detecting the flow of seeds. Special attention was devoted to building a flexible and modular equipment with an adequate man-machine interface. The sensor was tested under laboratory conditions and showed a good potential for further development. The monitor was tested to evaluate is functional features. The solutions adopted were satisfactory, and shall be field-tested after building a sturdier vesion.
