Abstract in English
This dissertation presents the approximated modeling of a Pilot Flow Plant through step response and applies the Direct Synthesis method to perform the tuning of PID controllers. A validation of the approximated models was made by comparing their outputs with real data. Experiments were performed with a high friction control valve, a low friction control valve and a frequency converter to control water flow. A method called Control Freeze (CF) was presented, which aims to reduce process variability and it is applied combined with a PI controller acting on an electropneumatic positioner and a digital positioner with Foundation Fieldbus protocol. The Constant Reinforcement 2 (CR2) method was proposed to friction compensation in valves actuated by I/P converter. The experiments showed that the flow control carried out by a frequency converter has many advantages when compared with the control performed by control valves, like reduction of head loss, reduction of electrical energy consumption, lower start currents and elimination of variability caused by friction in control valves. The high friction valve inserts a dead band which increases the system variability. Nevertheless, CF and CR2 with control disabling methods generated higher performance indexes and reduced the effects caused by friction.
