The rapid industrial development experienced by Cubatão between the 1970s and 1980s brought serious pollution problems to the city. Several studies using biomonitoring have been carried out in this region to assess damage caused to vegetation, however rare have been done to analyze and estimate the contamination profile in the urban area of Cubatão. The objective of this work is to evaluate areas of risk associated with metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) for the health of the population residing in the municipality of Cubatão, as well as possible sources of their emission, through the realization of a biomonitoring with the cultivar bioindicator Psidium guajava "Paluma". Two exhibitions were made in the period between March and September 2018. 6 young seedlings were distributed in 11 different locations, of which 3 were in the industrial region (I), 4 in the central region (C), 3 in the Peripheral region (P) and in the Rural Area (place of reference). For metal analysis, the inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry technique was used. For PAHs, liquid chromatography coupled to the diode array detector was used. The cluster analysis indicated 2 large groupings of locations: urban and industrial. The work concluded that the Central Region composed of (C1, C2, C3, C4, P1 and AR) presented greater influence of the metals As B and Zn. Area C1 presented a higher risk for As and B in relation to the other areas. These two elements come from industrial sources of emission, in addition B has a contribution from a natural emission source. The P1 area presented a higher risk for the Zn element, which is related to industrial emissions and vehicle traffic. The Peripheral-Industrial Region made up of I1, I2, I3, P2 and P3 showed a greater influence of Cr and Ni. The highest risk area for Cr was the P3 site. For Ni it was the I2 location. Cr and Ni elements are emitted from both industrial and mobile sources. The ANOVA on Ranks statistical analysis did not show differences in PAH concentrations between all 11 sites. The place with the highest abundance of total PAHs was I1. The PAH distribution profile indicated that in the industrial region there was a predominance of lighter PAHs, considered petrogenic, in the Central and Peripheral region there was a greater contribution of heavier, pyrogenic PAHs. The diagnostic ratio indicated that in most places there were pyrogenic sources of emission. The Rural Area (reference site) was more influenced by the elements As, B, Cr and Ni. The concentrations were similar to locations closer to sources of anthropogenic emissions. For PAHs, this area has undergone a greater contribution from lights PAHs, which may have a natural or anthropogenic source. Therefore, it is suggested that the area was influenced by mobile sources of disturbance, such as, for example, motor vehicles used in agriculture powered by diesel oil.
