Keywords in Portuguese
Comboio de embarcações

Abstract in English
A general model for the optimization of integrated barge convoy and its application on the study of a bauxite inland transportation system for the Amazon region are presented. The model consists in the resolution of the transportation problem and the determination of the optimum solution, according to the transportation minimum cost criterion, using the Hooke-Jeeves optimization method associated with a penalty function. The model allows the optimization of the barge convoy characteristics considering the waterway restrictions, as well as the simultâneos convoy-waterway optimization whenever it is desired to invest in the waterway to reduce the transportation cost. Analytical formulations were developed in order to permit the calculation of the EHP of integrated barge convoys, the steel weight of double-hull barges and the distance along the crash-stop pathof the convoy.
