A embarcação a vapor foi o resultado da engenhosidade de muitos homens. No século passado numerosas experiências nos Estados Unidos e Europa tiveram por objetivo aplicar o vapor na propulsão de embarcações. O propósito deste trabalho é descrever os passos da espiral de projeto utilizada para a restauração da embarcação à roda de pás "Benjamim Guimarães", e as melhorias a serem implementadas em alguns sistemas selecionados. O sistema propulsivo da embarcação receberá uma nova caldeira, flamatubular, porém com mais potência que a atual, e a roda de pás fixas terá seu diâmetro aumentado dos atuais 14,4 pés para 18 pés. Foi selecionada a roda de pás como item que merecerá um estudo mais aprofundado neste trabalho.

The steamboat was product of the ingenuity of many men. During the eighteenth century, numerous experiments in the USA and Europe were dealing with the problem of applying steam power for the propulsion of vessels. The purpose of this pape ris to explain the steps of the classical project spiral used for the restoration of the stem wheel boat Benjamim Guimarães and the improvements in some systems of the ship. The propulsive system of the boat will receive a new fire tube boiler, more powerfull, and the radial wheel will have its diameter increased from 14.4 ft to 18ft. The paddle wheel of the steamboat was selected as the item which will be focused in detail in this investigation.
