Abstract in English
The research consists of a numerical investigation of the ductile fracture in ASTM A285 Grade C steel using the finite element method through a phenomenological damage model. The adopted damage model is composed of a fracture initiation criterion dependent on triaxiality and the Lode angle parameters coupled with a law of damage evolution after fracture initiation. A series of experimental tests including axisymmetric bars and flat specimens subjected to axial traction were carried out to calibrate the initiation criterion. Calibration of the damage evolution law was performed with fracture toughness tests on SE(B) bend deep crack specimens. The validity of the damage model was verified with new fracture toughness tests including SE(B) bend shallow crack and tensile C(T) and SE(T) specimens. Comparisons between experimental and numerical results show good agreement among the data, indicating a correct model calibration. The calibrated numerical procedure was applied to conduct a parametric study in pipe with superficial cracks subjected to combine tensile and internal pressure loadings. The purpose was to investigate the effects of the application of the simultaneous loads and the geometric parameters defining the cracks on their strain capacity. It was observed that the internal pressure and crack dimensions increase reduce the capacity of the pipelines to deform axially, confirming the criticality of these variables in the assessment of the structural integrity of pipelines.
