Abstract in English
Different types of amines are used to float silicate minerals in the concentration of carbonates and iron ores. The influence of the structure and length of the hydrocarbonic chain of amines on the concentrate final quality and its recovery is reported in literature. This work evaluated how the lengths of the hydrocarbonic chain of aliphatic primary amines affect the flotation performance of itabiritic iron ore and of quartz sand. And evaluated the response of the reverse flotation of iron ore when blends of aliphatic amines with different lengths of the hydrocarbonic chain were used. The increase of the number of carbons in the alkyl group of the cationic collector enhanced the hydrophobization of mineral surface yielding higher quartz floatability. In the case of itabiritic iron ore, decylamine (C10) yielded the best performance in reverse flotation, leading to a Gaudin selectivity index of 8.7, 3.9% silica grade and 66.4% iron grade in the concentrate, while the long chains C14, C16 and C18 did not yield satisfactory results. The blend of different chain lengths was evaluated and compared with the pure primary amines in the reverse flotation of iron ore, and we observed a synergy between C12 and C8 chains in the ratio 50/50 of each amine. There is also a positive interaction in the blend of C12 and C10, the presence of the C10 chain improved significantly the flotation performance, with the increase in the efficacy of silica removal and iron grade in final concentrate.
