Abstract in Portuguese
As indústrias brasileiras de rochas ornamentais e siderúrgicas contribuem fortemente para o desenvolvimento econômico do Brasil.

Abstract in English
The Brazilian industries of dimension Stones and steel greatly contribute to the economic development of Brazil. The dimension stone industry has about 10,000 companies, which are responsible for 120,000 direct jobs and 360,000 indirect jobs. The country is the 4th largest world producer of stone. The accumulates production of stone. The accumulated production of the steel industry by march of 2013 totaled 8.3 million tons of crude steel and 6.2 million tons of hot rolled products. However, these industries generate large amount of solid waste from production processes. With the pursuit of sustainable development and the increased rigor in the legislations to solid waste, it is necessary to study alternatives of utilization to the waste generated. The structural ceramic industry uses raw materials, consisting of plastic and non-plastic and non-plastic materials, whose constituents are of heterogeneous nature, allowing the incorporation of waste from different industrial processes in the ceramic body composition. In this sense, the aim of this work is to study, using clays and wastes available in one pottery in focus, several mixtures consisting of clays and wastes, to determine which one would have the greatest potential to produce ceramic roof tiles with the best ceramic properties. The raw materials used in the research are normally used in a structural ceramic facility located in Colatina-ES: four clays, granite processing waste, blast furnace sludge and raw ceramic mass waste. The raw materials have been tested for physical, chemical, mineralogical and microstructural characterizations, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG), and determination of Atterberg limits. The raw materials in various contents were mixed and shaped into specimens for burning in an industrial furnace-type tunnel to check: mechanical strength, water absorption, shrinkage, porosity and apparent density. The best results were obtained at 46% in weight waste content. From there, ceramic roof tiles were produced on an industrial scale with 46% waste, with granite processing waste of 17%, ceramic raw mass waste of 24% and blast furnace sludge of 5% which presented suitable properties. With this, the high potential to incorporation of large amount of the wastes in the ceramic body is confirmed.
