Abstract in English
The effects of the cooling rate and carbon equivalent of two pearlitic lamellar graphite cast irons on their tensile strength were investigated. The critical cooling rate was varied by changing the thickness of the cast plates from 5.8 to 2.6 mm and the values of the carbon equivalent were equal to 3.90 and 4.20%. The increase in the cooling rate promoted the refining of secondary dendrite arm spacing, graphite flakes, eutectic cell size, interdendritic hydraulic diameter and pearlite interlamellar spacing. The maximum tensile strength increased from 274 to 524 MPa with the increase of the cooling rate and reduction in the carbon equivalent combined. The results were used to test two tensile strength predictive models based on modified versions of the Griffith and Hall-Petch equations.
