A determinação do coeficiente de atrito existente entre duas superfícies em movimento relativo, pode ser conseguida de forma indireta, pela verificação da resistência imposta a esse movimento. O presente trabalho determina tal parâmetro no processo de extrusão a frio de um aço baixo carbono. Para isso, foram preparados alguns corpos de prova cilíndricos, os quais tiveram seus diâmetros iniciais alterados através do processo de extrusão a frio em matriz aberta. Estudou-se a variação dos esfôrços de extrusão em função da espessura da camada de fosfato para diferentes reduções e diferentes ângulos de ferramenta (matriz cônica). Através do modelo de Avitzur, o qual se utiliza do método do limite superior, pode-se verificar a variação do coeficiente de atrito em função da espessura da camada de fosfato.

The determination of friction coeficiente existing between two bodies in contact under relative motion, can be obtained in indirect way by verification of the resistance to this motion. This work determines, by indirect way, the friction fator in the processo f cold extrusion for a low carbono steel. For this, some cylindrical specimens, which had their initial diameter changed through the processo f cold extrusion in open die, were prepared. The variation of the extrusion force as a function of the phosphate layer by diferente reductions and diferente angles of the die (conical die), were studied. Through the Avitzur model, which uses the upper bound solution, it was possible to determine the variation of the friction coeficiente in function of the phosphate layer.
