Abstract in English
This work presents an experimental study on wear and friction coefficient responses during dry sliding. Sliding tests were carried out using a pin-on-disk wear testing machine, with fixed thermoplastic pins and rotating stainless steel disks. The thermoplastic materials tested were ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), polyoxymethylene (POM) and polyamide 6.6. (PA6.6). Three conditions of applied load and three conditions of sliding velocity were used. Friction coefficient and change in height of the pins were monitored during the sliding tests. The wear was studied by calculation of wear rate, considering creep of the thermoplastic pins, and by optical and scanning electron microscopy of the worn surfaces. The results showed that the friction coefficient of the POM and PA6.6 pins were susceptible to the applied load and sliding velocity, and that friction coefficient of the three materials studied was susceptible to the pressure-velocity condition (PV). The calculated wear rates showed that UHMWPE and POM have greater wear resistance than PA6.6. Differences in the morphologies of the worn surfaces were also observed.
