Abstract in English
The book is one of the main historical, social and cultural artifacts of human history. The e-reader brings new potential to the reader, writer and other agents involved in the publishing market as it is inserted in a digital environment. With the premise of being a specific device for reading, the e-reader acquired characteristics of social networks over the years. Today, it`s possible to share phrases from books and interact with other users through this device. Based on a critical review by authors such as Vilém Flusser, Dominique Wolton, Walter Benjamin, Lev Manovich and Norval Baitello Junior, as well as a bibliographical survey on the reading scenario in Brazil and the historicity of e-readers, this work aims to structure an theorical understanding from the digital reader as a Flusser`s device. Thus, at the same time that this new media provide authors with new tools for reading and publishing books, e-readers attribute techno-image characteristics to the text and resize the book's media character.
