A tese teve como objetivo estudar as séries brasileiras que estrearam no país, na televisão paga e nas plataformas streaming de vídeo sob demanda por assinatura Netflix e Globoplay, entre os anos de 2005 e 2020, sob a perspectiva dos gêneros, formatos e temas, considerando-os como categorias essenciais para pensar a persistência da linguagem televisual através das mídias e tecnologias. Reflete sobre as múltiplas formas de acesso à ficção televisiva e sobre a diversificação de criadores e produtoras independentes envolvidos na produção de séries. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, que combina etapas exploratória, descritiva e explicativa, e utiliza dados quantitativos, com base no levantamento realizado, para seleção dos gêneros e formatos, temas e títulos que compõem o corpus no recorte temporal mencionado. O trabalho apresenta um mapeamento das produções e destaca recorrências e experimentações, em anos de mudanças regulatórias, econômicas e institucionais e de intensificação dos processos de transnacionalização de negócios e conteúdos das mídias. Para embasar as análises, utiliza os Estudos de Televisão, os Estudos Culturais, os Estudos de Linguagem, na perspectiva bakhtiniana, e a análise do discurso de linha francesa (A.D.). No período observado, estrearam 208 séries (330 temporadas) brasileiras na TV paga, em 26 canais, além de 26 títulos (35 temporadas) nas plataformas Globoplay e Netflix. Apesar de o estudo constatar o desenvolvimento de produções independentes, nota-se a persistente centralidade do grupo Globo na veiculação e produção de ficção seriada. Nas análises, foram observadas diferentes estratégias e experimentações na composição das séries, mostrando as recorrências que constituem, ao longo do tempo, os gêneros e formatos televisivos e explicitando os procedimentos interdiscursivos e intertextuais neles envolvidos, como adaptações, hibridizações de gêneros e formatos e tematização.

The thesis aimed to study the Brazilian fiction series that premiered in the country, on pay TV and on the streaming video platforms Netflix and Globoplay, between the years 2005 and 2020, under the perspective of genres, formats and themes, considering them as essential aspects to think about the persistence of television language across media and technologies. It reflects on the multiple ways to watch television fiction and on the diversification of independent creators and producers involved in the production of series. This is a qualitative study, which combines exploratory, descriptive and explanatory stages, and uses quantitative data, based on the survey carried out, to select the genres and formats, themes and titles that compose the corpus in the aforementioned time frame. The work presents a mapping of productions and highlights recurrences and experimentation, in years of regulatory, economic and institutional changes and of intensification of the transnationalization of business and media content. To support the analyses, it uses Television Studies, Cultural Studies, Language Studies, in the Bakhtinian perspective and the analysis of French discourse (A.D.). In the observed period, 208 Brazilian series (330 seasons) premiered on pay TV, on 26 channels, in addition to 26 titles (35 seasons) on Globoplay and Netflix platforms. Despite the research found the development of independent productions, the persistent centrality of the Globo group in the broadcasting and production of serial fiction is noted.
