Abstract in English
The aim of this dissertation is to analyze and understand the phenomenon of algorithmic logic on the Facebook platform and its implications for the political public sphere. In addition, it investigates the impacts of replacing journalists with algorithms as gatekeepers of the communicative flow on the Facebook platform; and it evaluates the effects of platformization for Brazilian newspapers. The normative ideal of the public sphere by Jürgen Habermas, the concept of platformization, elaborated by José van Dijck, Thomas Poell and Martijn de Waal, and studies on Facebook, using Taina Bucher as the main reference, are used as a theoretical basis. It presents a survey on the circulation of Brazilian newspapers based on audits carried out by Instituto Verificador de Comunicação. In addition, through the CrowdTangle tool and over 20 different dates, a sample of the 500 most shared links on the platform was collected. Among the results, a greater market concentration was found in the journalistic sector, with the predominance of four newspapers with national circulation. Regarding Facebook, 179 of the links in the sample originated from journalistic organizations. Among the conclusions, it is highlighted that Facebook's algorithmic logic contributed to the degradation of the political public sphere in Brazil in the researched period.
