Esta tese trata dos processos que envolvem a tecnologia, a produção e o consumo das rádios livres sorocabanas. Especificamente, a pesquisa tem como objetivo identificar os conceitos e características atreladas a esses meios de comunicação. O esforço também visa averiguar se as ideias relacionadas às emissoras clandestinas do interior paulista são relevantes em um mundo pautado pelas tecnologias emergentes. O estudo se apoia em pesquisas realizadas na área da Comunicação, reforçada pelos estudos em história oral temática e entrevistas semiestruturadas como percurso metodológico. A amostragem conta com sujeitos que participaram ativamente do movimento das rádios livres na cidade de Sorocaba iniciado na década de 1970 e podcasters que atuam no município hoje. Justifica-se a investigação científica ao verificar que, no meio acadêmico, a mídias apresentadas são citadas, mas não encaradas como objeto de estudo. As resultantes apresentam os conceitos e características das rádios livres sorocabanas de acordo com as seguintes categorias: rebeldia; posicionamento político; apropriação; subversão; práticas socioculturais; utilidade pública; educação; recursos financeiros; periodicidade; audiência. Concomitantemente, as argumentações mostram que tais reflexões podem ser usadas como fundamentação teórica para produzir um pensamento crítico sobre a mídia sonora no ciberespaço. Assim, as ideias presentes nas rádios livres sorocabanas são relevantes para investigar as complexidades da Comunicação Radiofônica contemporânea.

This thesis deals with the processes that involve the technology, production and consumption of the free radios of Sorocaba city. In particular, the research aims to identify the concepts and characteristics linked to these vehicles of communication. The effort also aims to investigate if the ideas related to these clandestine radio stations in the provinces of São Paulo state are relevant to a world grounded in emerging technologies. The study is based on researches in the area of Communication, reinforced by studies in oral thematic history and semi-structured interviews as a methodological path. The sampling includes subjects who actively participated in the free radios movement in the city of Sorocaba, which started in the 1970s, and podcasters who work in the city nowadays. This scientific investigation is justified when verifying that, in the academic environment, the presented media is mentioned, but not seen as an object of study. The results present the concepts and characteristics of the free radio stations in Sorocaba according to the following categories: defiance; political positioning; appropriation; subversion; sociocultural practices; public utility; education; financial resources; periodicity; audience. Concomitantly, the arguments show that such reflections can be used as a theoretical foundation to produce critical thinking about the sound media on cyberspace. Thus, the ideas presented on the free radios of Sorocaba city are relevant to investigate the complexities of the contemporary radio communication.
