Por meio dos Estudos Culturais e da teoria Queer, a tese realiza uma análise da representação discursiva de personagens LGBT+ em narrativas brasileiras de ficção seriada originais Netflix. O trabalho analisa o tema com base em duas etapas complementares que envolvem técnicas quantitativas e qualitativas para apreensão do objeto empírico. Na etapa de coleta de dados, foram mapeados 1.535 títulos originais Netflix, que foram sistematizados e classificados em termos de formato, gênero, nacionalidade e ano de estreia. A partir desse universo, foi definido o corpus da pesquisa composto por nove séries brasileiras originais Netflix produzidas até fevereiro de 2020. Entre os procedimentos de análise qualitativa destacam-se o estudo e a classificação de personagens LGBT+ considerando sua construção discursiva em termos de representação, considerando, além de gêneros e sexualidades, aspectos ligados à raça, faixa etária, classe social, função dramática e relações socioafetivas. A etapa metodológica de mapeamento e sua discussão levou a atualizações e relativizações em torno dos fluxos globais de mídia tradicionais, que são, ao mesmo tempo, reforçados e rompidos pelas formas de produção e distribuição adotadas pela Netflix. Isso ocorre porque, se por um lado os títulos são em sua maioria realizados em países de língua inglesa, especialmente nos Estados Unidos, por outro detectamos um movimento de aumento da participação de outras nações e regiões do mundo na produção dos conteúdos originais. Como principais resultados, o estudo apresenta a proeminência da representação de homens gays brancos entre as identidades mais destacadas nas séries brasileiras da Netflix, assim como ocorre tradicionalmente nas telenovelas nacionais distribuídas pela TV de fluxo. Outro achado da pesquisa refere-se ao lugar da bissexualidade na construção discursiva das representações no corpus, já que ela compõe as identidades das duas únicas protagonistas LGBT+ das séries analisadas. Percebemos ainda a preponderância da cisgeneridade entre as personagens das narrativas analisadas, o que leva, ainda, ao apagamento da transmasculinidade e outras identidades sub-representadas.

Through Cultural Studies and Queer theory, the thesis conducts an analysis of the discursive representation of LGBTQIA characters in Brazilian Netflix original series. The work analyzes the theme based on two complementary steps that involve quantitative and qualitative techniques for apprehending the empirical object. In the data collection stage, 1,535 original Netflix titles were mapped, which were systematized and classified in terms of format, genre, nationality and year of debut. From this universe, the corpus of the research was defined, composed of nine original Brazilian Netflix series produced until February 2020. Among the qualitative analysis procedures, the study and classification of LGBTQIA characters stand out considering their discursive construction in terms of representation, considering, in addition to genders and sexualities, aspects related to race, age group, social class, dramatic function and socio-affective relationships. The methodological stage of mapping and its discussion led to updates and relativizations around the traditional global media flows, which are, at the same time, reinforced and contested by the forms of production and distribution adopted by Netflix. It happens because, on the one hand, the titles are mostly made in English-speaking countries, especially in the United States, on the other hand we have detected a movement to increase the participation of other nations and regions of the world in the production of original content. As main results, the study presents the prominence of the representation of white gay men among the most represented identities in Brazilian Netflix series, just as it traditionally occurs in national telenovelas distributed on TV. Another finding of the research refers to the place of bisexuality in the discursive construction of representations in the corpus, since it composes the identities of the two LGBTQIA protagonists in the analyzed series. We also perceive the preponderance of cisgenerity among the characters of the analyzed narratives, which also leads to the erasure of transmasculinity and other underrepresented identities.
