Abstract in English
The indexation in databases is a process which requirements have shown among the scientific communities more recognition to the journals in evaluation processes, by establishing quality criteria also based on scientific merit. In turn, the indexation of books in databases is a more recent phenomenon, which resulted in the objectives of this research by mapping the databases that also index books and their respective evaluation criteria. Through an exploratory approach it was possible to arrive at a list of 25 book databases, of which 21 (84%) publish their selection criteria. Such criteria were organized according to three categories -- database characteristics, evaluation criteria and metadata--, all of which are of a qualitative type, for the evaluation of the book as a unit (as opposed to the collections of journal articles, which are considered as a whole). The data from this research have allowed to affirm that book databases are not yet used for evaluation purposes, with the result that indexing provides visibility, internationalization and interoperability. Finally, it was considered that in order for the databases to serve as a parameter for the composition of future evaluation processes, it is necessary to detail and make public the selection criteria, expand the coverage of languages accepted for indexation, avoid endogenous editorial boards and require the adoption of peer review.
