A explosão informacional e as tecnologias de informação e comunicação provocaram intensas transformações sociais que demandaram reposicionamento das instituições, principalmente as de ensino e pesquisa como o IFSP - Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de São Paulo, que, ao longo de sua história, passou por diversas mudanças de público-alvo e missão. Nesse contexto, partiu-se do pressuposto que é necessário compreender tais alterações e o perfil da comunidade que o integra (docentes, discentes e servidores) para reconfiguração da biblioteca. A pesquisa é de caráter exploratório e descritivo, tendo como base a análise documental do IFSP e da Biblioteca Francisco Montojos; elaboração do panorama da literatura; e estudo de caso focado nos usuários da biblioteca selecionada. O estudo de usuários foi realizado utilizando-se questionário enviado à comunidade do câmpus São Paulo do IFSP e divulgados nas redes sociais da biblioteca. Constatou-se que, na maior parte do tempo, a biblioteca esteve inserida em contexto escolar, como apoio ao ensino dos cursos técnicos de nível médio. A oferta de cursos superiores demanda readequação da infraestrutura e dos serviços oferecidos, o que vem ocorrendo de forma gradual. Resultados revelam a falta de autonomia dos usuários para pesquisa, associada à carência de infraestrutura de informação e acesso à internet, demonstrando a necessidade de a biblioteca oferecer treinamentos e cursos de capacitação no uso de fontes, principalmente aos alunos, além de investir em ampliação do acervo e disponibilização de computadores para uso acadêmico. Conclui-se que as atuais políticas da biblioteca não estão totalmente de acordo com a missão do IFSP, que propõe uma formação integradora aos seus alunos, uma vez que o acervo e os serviços disponibilizados até o momento estão aquém do necessário para se configurar como espaço de estudo e pesquisa à diversidade de seus potenciais usuários.

The information explosion and the information and communication technologies caused intense social transformations that demanded repositioning of the institutions, mainly those of teaching and research such as the IFSP - Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of São Paulo, which, throughout its history, went through several changes in target audience and mission. In this context, it was assumed that it is necessary to understand these changes and the profile of the community that integrates them (teachers, students and servers) to reconfigure the library. The research is exploratory descriptive, based on the documentary analysis of the IFSP and the Francisco Montojos Library; elaboration of the literature panorama; and case study focused on users of the selected library. The user study was carried out using a questionnaire sent to the IFSP campus São Paulo community and published on the library's social networks. It was found that, most of the time, the library was inserted in a school context, as a support to the teaching of technical courses at high school level. The offer of higher education courses requires a readjustment of the infrastructure and services offered, which has been occurring gradually. Results reveal the lack of autonomy of users for research, associated with the lack of information infrastructure and internet access, demonstrating the need for the library to offer training and capacity building courses in the use of sources, especially to students, in addition to investing in expanding the collection and availability of computers for academic use. It is concluded that the current policies of the library are not fully in accordance with the mission of the IFSP, which proposes an integrative training for its students, since the collection and services available so far are below what is necessary to be configured as a space for study and research to the diversity of its potential users.
