Abstract in English
The objective of this dissertation is to make a reading of Julio Bressane's cinema based on the presence and performance of Rosa Dias, a Brazilian philosopher specialized in Friedrich Nietzsche's thought. For this, the analysis will focus on three films by Bressane Dias de Nietzsche em Turim (2001), Nietzsche em Nice (2004) and Nietzsche Sils Maria Rochedo de Surlej (2019) that are integrally traversed by the German philosopher, in light of the approach in books and articles published by Rosa Dias. Besides being the stated mediator in the filmmaker's encounters with Nietzsche, the Brazilian philosopher, in these three cinematic works, has an active role, as screenwriter, researcher, scriptwriter and also co-director (in the case of the 2019 film). Bressane is a reader of Dias' work, therefore informed regarding the discussions, analyses, and readings developed by her. The filmic analyses, in turn, are made in comparison with the intellectual production of Dias, seeking to see how the filmmaker translates (or suggests) to cinema concepts and issues dear to Nietzschean thought favored by Dias. The history of the fruitful encounter between Bressane and Dias dates back to the early 1970s, and is undoubtedly the longest and most continuous partnership in the filmmaker's work. In this sense, we follow a path from the displacements experienced in exile by the couple to those that have occurred beginning in the 1990s, which has to do with the late reception of the filmmaker's films in the European countries through which Nietzsche passed. In this way, we compare the nature of Bressane's cinema and Dias' work as a possible point of convergence, intertwining and/or reverberation between the two trajectories.
