Keywords in Portuguese
Cantos de trabalho
Cinema brasileiro
Humberto Mauro
Leon Hirszman

Abstract in English
The main goal of this dissertation is to build a reflection about the cinematic representations of peasants work songs in Brazilian cinema, from the comparative analysis of their presence in the Humberto Mauro and Leon Hirszman filmographies, embracing as crosscutting issues the discussion about the work as raw film material, the presence of peasant universe in Brazilian cinema, the different meanings of the work songs as social and artistic phenomenon, the influence of Humberto Mauro in the Brazilian film modernism and the relevance of the working world in the Leon Hirszman's artistic and intellectual trajectory. To handle this issue, we decided to make a film analysis by chapter, beginnig by Humberto Mauro`s works - Aboio e cantigas e Cantos de trabalho - through the trilogia dos cantos de trabalho of Leon Hirszman and ending with S. Bernardo, more specifically of its final sequence. In this way, in addition to a comparative study, the dissertation intends to build a complex and open picture about social and aesthetic interrelationships between cinema, song and work.
