Abstract in English
The present study investigates the citational poetics of Jean-Luc Godard's late videographic essayism, mainly in his dealing with historical narration, dedicating specifically to the films The Old Place (1999) and Liberté et Patrie (2002), both directed in partnership with filmmaker Anne-Marie Miéville. Starting from a brief contextualization of the development of godardian videographic essayism and its encounter with Miéville, as well as the importance of Histoire (s) du cinéma for the formulation of a reflexive form that, through its own form, seeks to dialectically relate the history of cinema and visual arts with social history, we seek to demonstrate the specifics that it has achieved over time by taking two distinct works as a reference. We seek to point out the singularities of both films and, using a set of concepts from Walter Benjamin's philosophy of history, explain the implications that the constitution of a very unique way of gathering a citational constellation of expressive materials to narrate the story offers. In the end, we propose the opening of a reflection on how the evolution of this specific type of cinema developed until the end of this research, seeking to contribute to the perception of Godard's aesthetic-political originality in the creation of a form that intends, while thinking, rewrite history against the grain.
