Ressignificação

Abstract in English
This research proposes the survey and analysis of women's production in the field of found footage. Found footage is understood as the practice of reassembling reappropriated material from cinema, television, youtube, newsreel, pornography, home movies, etc. for the creation of new audiovisual works. We start from the observation of a historical affinity between women and found footage, and aim to investigate the reasons for such an affinity and of the possibilities of expression presented to women by the practice of found footage. The relationship between women and found footage is approached, on the one hand, from the perspective of access, investigating the long relationship of women with the editing field throughout the history of cinema and, on the other hand, as a critical stance against hegemonic gender representations. The research then proposes considering these directors and editors as active spectators, who can print their readings on the material with which they work. Based on Judith Butler's concept of resignification, the research identifies different strategies employed by these directors on the reassembling of third-party material, and on the resignification of gender representations.
