Abstract in English
An interpretative approach to Hommages op. 18 à Frank Martin, Béla Bartók et Igor Strawinsky for oboe, strings and timpani ad libitum by Ernst Widmer is the theme of this thesis, and it was built based on the observance of a series of aspects: analytical, historical and conceptual ones. The dedication of Hommages foreshadows signs of influences, and it was crucial to examine how they were manifested in the musical text.. In this work I basically divided into two parts. The first addresses the concept of interpretation, execution and performance, as well as its transformation throughout history. These changes are marked within a historical framework that comprises the space of time in which the honored composers lived. The second proposes an interpretation perspective, constructed and formatted through the analytical process, which underlies the choices made. For that, the Set Theory was used, a tool considered adequate for the analysis of this non-tonal work. The process of investigating the influences that Widmer declares to have received from those composers throughout his musical trajectory, proved to be fundamental for the construction of a reference for each of the movements that compose the work. Copies of the original manuscripts were used for this work, which are currently kept in Switzerland. It was considered opportune to place the work in the historical framework in which it is inserted, after the composer's arrival in Brazil, as well as to examine other pieces composed during the same period in order to establish a broader vision of his compositional style.
