Abstract in English
This work intends to analyze and demonstrate the influence anda legacy of Heitor Villa- Lobos (1887-1959) on Brazilian popular music composers, especially Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994) (considered one of the inventors of the Bossa Nova movement). The correlation between the works of the two composers is something that has already been commented on, which is considered common sense. Nevertheless, we have not found yet analytical works focused deeply on this comparison. In this way, through the analysis, we will approach some different aspects regarding the relations between the two composers, as well as their unfolding in Bossa Nova and in the popular Brazilian chamber song through other composers as well. Therefore, surface auditory similarities will be related to more in-depth technical-musical procedures, by using analytical tools applied at the repertoire of tonal music and for post-tonal music, such as traditional harmony and set theory. It is expected that this work can enrich the research on Brazilian music and the understanding of the compositional processes of the composers analyzed here, which are considered so important in the invention and representation of Brazilianness in their works.
