A proposta desta tese é, através de análises estéticas e musicais, especular sobre os aspectos do discurso musical contidos em parte da produção fonográfica do grupo Pau Brasil, um dos mais duradouros grupos de música instrumental nacional. Partindo da informação de que o grupo mudou a sua formação em várias ocasiões, o foco deste trabalho também será refletir sobre as possíveis alterações nos referenciais culturais, estéticos e musicais em sua produção, bem como as contribuições de cada novo integrante a cada novo disco. Como o nome do grupo indica possíveis elos entre a sua produção e os ideais do movimento modernista brasileiro, principalmente à ideia do antropofagismo cultural, as especulações aqui propostas serão articuladas em relação ao jazz, elemento estrangeiro presente na obra do grupo, assim como a obra de Villa-Lobos, um dos compositores mais constantes no repertório do grupo Pau Brasil. Desta forma, o aspecto que se refere às alterações na formação do grupo será um fator organizacional dos elementos que aqui serão levantados, e o nome de Villa-Lobos também servirá como o ponto de chegada do recorte aqui proposto, uma vez que após algumas versões, em 2012 o grupo gravou Villa-Lobos SuperStar, álbum inteiramente com obras do compositor. Tal delimitação temporal também se deve ao fato que o grupo ainda está em atividade, permitindo assim um certo distanciamento histórico ao trabalho que aqui será desenvolvido.

The proposal of this thesis is, through aesthetic and musical analysis, to speculate about the aspects of musical discourse contained in part of the phonographic production of the Pau Brasil group, one of the long-lasting national instrumental music groups. Starting from the information that the group has changed its formation on several occasions, the focus of this work will also be to reflect on the possible changes in cultural, aesthetic and musical references in its production, as well as the contributions of each new member on each new album. As the group's name indicates possible links between its production and the ideals of the Brazilian modernist movement, especially the idea of cultural anthropophagism, the speculation proposed here will be articulated in relation to jazz, a foreign element present in the group's work, as well as the work from Villa-Lobos, one of the most constant composers in the Pau Brasil Group repertoire. Thus, the aspect that refers to changes in the group formation will be an organizational factor of the elements that will be raised here, and the name of Villa-Lobos will also serve as the point of arrival of the clipping proposed here, since after some versions, in 2012 the group recorded Villa-Lobos Superstar, album entirely with works by the composer. This temporal delimitation is also due to the fact that the group is still active, thus allowing a certain historical distancing to the work that will be developed here.
